Ø SCRIPPS HOWARD FOUNDATION’S SEMESTER IN WASHINGTON
The Scripps Howard Foundation’s Semester in Washington program is an internship program for college journalism students. Students receive free housing in apartments in Northwest Washington and a stipend ($2,000 for spring and fall students, $1,500 for summer students and $500 for the Hampton University program) and work as reporters for the Scripps Howard Foundation Wire. Hampton University Short Course: May 12 to June 5.

Ø DOW JONES NEWSPAPER FUND, INC. 2008 SUMMER INTERNSHIPS
The postmark deadline is Nov. 1. The Dow Jones Newspaper Fund offers annual summer internships in business reporting, newspaper copy editing and sports copy editing. With support from Yahoo! News, the Fund will offer 12 online editing internships. Each program provides free pre-internship training seminars on college campuses and weekly salaries starting at $350 for a minimum of 10 weeks. Interns who return to college full-time the following fall will receive $1,000 scholarships from the Fund

Deadline: Nov. 1, 2007. What do interns actually do?
Interns write articles, edit copy, take photographs, design pages and produce graphics during their 12 weeks of employment.
On which staffs do interns work?
Reporting interns regularly work for the Metro, Financial, Style, and Sports desks. In addition we select an intern for the Photo, News Art, News Desk(design, layout) and Editorial Page staff. Copy editing interns, including one chosen through the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund editing program , are assigned to the National, Foreign, Metro and Financial desks. Ø THE BOSTON GLOBE
Applications for the 2008 program must be postmarked by November 1, 2007. The Boston Globe summer intern program began more than 50 years ago as an opportunity for college students interested in journalism to gain practical experience on a major newspaper. The largest group of interns works in metro on general assignment. Other intern reporters are assigned to sports, living/arts, business, and the Washington, DC bureau. Ø ST. PETERSBURG TIMES
Deadline: November 15, 2007. The St. Petersburg Times’ internship program introduces college students to careers in the newspaper industry. Ø ASSOCIATED PRESS NEWS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Requirements include a timed newswriting test. The application deadline for the summer 2008 program is Nov. 15, 2007. This internship program is a highly selective, 12-week, individually tailored training program for students who are aspiring print, photo, graphics and multimedia journalists. The internship is open to full-time juniors, seniors (including fall 2007 graduates) and graduate students at U.S. colleges and universities.

Ø NEWSDAY’S SUMMER JOURNALISM PROGRAM
Please note: A writing test will be sent upon receipt of each application. This test and other application materials must be postmarked on or before November 15 for full consideration. Interns work as reporters, photographers or artists, and are given actual assignments for publication. They are participants, not merely observers, in the daily process of putting out the newspaper. While applicants are encouraged to designate their preference in areas such as news, sports, entertainment, features and business, final determination will be made by the editors. Ø THE ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION
Applications must be postmarked by November 16, 2007. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is offering paid 10-week internships for the summer of 2008. We’re looking for college students who are interested in pursuing a career as a reporter, photographer, copy editor, page designer, graphic artist, multimedia producer or web developer. Qualifications: Open to full-time juniors, seniors or graduate students. We also accept applications from people who have graduated within six months of the start of the internship. Previous professional daily deadline experience preferred. Must have worked on the campus newspaper or other publications.
