NAHJ Parity Project

Posted by: NAHJ-UPR on: October 19, 2007

Dear NAHJ member: Here is the latest news about the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ (NAHJ) Parity Project.  What is the Parity Project? NAHJ’s Parity Project is intended to serve as a model for the entire journalism industry when it comes to improving newsroom diversity and coverage of, as well as interaction with, diverse communities, specifically Latinos. These goals are accomplished through several holistic methods: town hall meetings, newsroom cultural awareness sessions, online surveys to gauge opinions of news staff and Hispanic community leaders on coverage of Latinos, community advisory committees and establishing a “pipeline” of Latino journalism talent through high schools, colleges and universities.         Since NAHJ’s Parity Project was first launched at the Rocky
Mountain News in Denver in April 2003, this program has helped place
160 Latino journalists, and other journalists of color, into full-time
        newsroom jobs.
